VIT Engineering Entrance Examination 2023 for B.Tech. Admission
Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE 2023) will be conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology. Through VITEEE admissions to undergraduate engineering programs in the VIT group of Institutions will be done.
VITEEE will be conducted between 15 and 21 April 2023 (Tentative) at designated centers across India and abroad.
The duration of the examination will be 2 hours and 30 minutes. Candidates can appear only once for VITEEE. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions and one mark for the right and 0 for the wrong answer.
There will be a total of 125 questions divided into the section Maths/Biology (40 questions), Physics (35 questions), Chemistry (35 questions), Aptitude (10 questions), and English (5 questions). The question paper will be in English only.

Eligibility for VITEEE 2023
- The applicant should be a Resident / Non-Resident Indian National / PIO / OCI.
- NRI applicants can directly apply under ‘NRI Category’ through NRI application form. This link Will be available shortly.
- Foreign applicants who studied/studied abroad can apply directly through the International application form. This link Will be available shortly.
Age Limit
- Applicants whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 2001 are eligible to apply for Engineering admission 2023.
- The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate will be considered authentic.
- Applicants should produce this certificate in original as proof of their age at the time of counseling/admission, failing which their candidacy for admission will be disqualified.
Qualifying Examination
Applicants applying for UG Engineering admission should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2023, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
- The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination is conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi), The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi.
- Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. (Physics & Mathematics – HL, Chemistry – SL)
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- Regular ‘NIOS’ board candidates are also eligible for Undergraduate Engineering programs. Applicants should produce the Migration Cum Transfer Certificate at the time of joining.
Applicants who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination with grade/CGPA converted to a percentage.
For Indian nationals appearance in VITEEE 2023 is mandatory to be eligible for B. Tech. admission.
In case VITEEE 2023 gets cancelled due to natural calamities, qualifying criteria may be substituted with higher secondary marks or JEE-23 or a valid SAT. Applicants will be informed with specifics in such case.
Qualifying Examination Performance
- Applicants applying for Undergraduate Engineering admission in 2023 should have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).
- Applicants applying for Undergraduate Engineering admission in 2023 should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate) for the following categories:
- Applicants belonging to SC/ST
- Applicants hailing from Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. Certificates to prove community/nativity should be produced at the time of counseling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.

PCMB/PCM applicants who have attempted Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Aptitude in VITEEE 2023 are eligible for all B. Tech Programmes.

VITEEE 2023 Selection CriteriaSelection Criteria
- Selection is based on the rank secured through the Computer Based Test CBT exam of VITEEE 2023.
- Selected candidates can participate in online counseling based on their ranking. They can give options for a specific campus, programs, and categories of fees.
- Allotment will be based on the matching of the rank obtained and available options.
- Candidates with ranks up to 1 Lakh are eligible for counseling to Vellore and Chennai campuses.
- VIT will verify the eligibility of candidates after completing the tuition fee payment on or before the stipulated date.
- Candidates are required to produce documents on the day of coming to the campus or as and when asked for, by the Office of Admissions.
- Provisional Admission offered during counseling will be valid ONLY if the eligibility is fulfilled.
- In case of a situation wherein the eligibility criteria are not applicable, the decision of the VIT will be final.

Are candidates appearing for Improvement/Privately also eligible to apply for VITEEE?
‘Yes’. They are eligible to apply for VITEEE and should produce their marks sheet at the time of counseling/ admission.
Will I be offered the option of choosing campus and program while filling application?
‘No’. Only at the time of counseling you will be offered the option of choosing campus and programme. This would depend on the availability of the programme and campus as per your rank in the order of merit.
Does VIT offer admissions through Management quota?
There is no Management Quota in VIT. Admissions to B.Tech. programme is based on the merit rank obtained in the VITEEE 2023 and for other Undergraduate programmes, it is based on the merit of your XII/ Higher Secondary Boards by which you would be ranked accordingly.
Is there lateral entry admission available for Diploma candidates?
‘No’. There is no lateral entry admission offered for B.Tech and UG programmes. Diploma holders (10+3) are eligible for B.Sc. Multimedia and Animation, Visual Communication, Fashion Designing (Chennai) with an overall aggregate of 60%.
Is VITEEE mandatory or would merit of XII/ Higher Secondary Board, JEE Main/ SAT scores be considered for admission to the B.Tech. Degree programme?
‘Yes’. VITEEE is mandatory for admission to the B.Tech. Programme in VIT. Higher Secondary Board, JEE Main/ SAT scores will not be considered for admission to the B.Tech. Degree programme
What would be the valid ID proofs needed to be produced in the entrance examination hall, in addition to the E-admit card with photograph?
You should bring original of either Aadhar card/ Driving license/ PAN card / Passport/ Voter ID card or else School ID card.
Is there an option to ‘Edit’ the application form in web?
‘Yes’. Once you complete the application form, you will be able to edit your application. (After making the payment and uploading your photo & Signature). You will find the ‘Edit’ option on the left side of the screen at the application- download stage. (You would be able to edit all fields inclusive of test city and uploaded documents).
I have secured 62% overall in +2 examination, but 53.35% in PCM/ PCB. In such case, am I eligible for admission?
‘No’. You should satisfy the eligibility criteria of obtaining a minimum aggregate of 60% in PCM/PCB for the B.Tech. Programme. Refer information brochure for detailed eligibility criteria.
Which Engineering stream would I be eligible to apply for if I opt for Physics, Chemistry and Biology?
If you have opted for Physics, Chemistry and Biology in VITEEE 2023, you would be eligible only for (1) B.Tech Bio-Engineering, (2) B.Tech Biotechnology, (3) B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in Bioinformatics, (4) B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (Specialization in Health Informatics). (5) B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering with specialization in Biomedical Engineering

How can I get the admit card?
After the slot booking, you would be able to download the admit card.
What is slot booking in VIT?
Slot booking refers to you choosing your venue, date and time for the VITEEE at your desired test city.Vellore Institute of Technology VIT starts the online VITEEE Slot Booking at VIT’s Online Test Booking System.(OTBS). The candidates have to use their VITEEE 2023 application number and password to enter the VIT OTBS. The slot booking is done in the first come first serve basis. After the VITEEE 2023 Slot booking the candidates can check their admit card that is generated just after. The candidates have to download the same and complete the process.
Does VIT provide scholarships to students from rural areas and underprivileged meritorious students?
STARS (Support the Advancement of Rural Students Scheme) helps students from under privileged backgrounds of Tamil Nadu/ Andra Pradesh to achieve their dreams by giving them 100% fee waiver for their academic, hostel and basic medical expenses.
